Great interview. I like this idea of "big D" and "little D" designers. I've shifted between the two throughout my entire career. There's a part of me that still loves the craft and the idea of creating impactful images but then there's the other side that wants to be respected in a board room and contribute to the overall communications strategy. It's very difficult to find time for both. I've also found that in general, designers are not as respected for their strategic knowledge even if the contribution they offer is as good or better than the folks tasked with heading up communications and marketing. This is also reflected in pay. In a perfect world we wouldn't have the barriers that come with titles and acknowledge each person's contribution equally.
